Thing 6 Adding Content

I reviewed all of the Search Tools listed and discovered that Google Blogs and Technorati appear to be more user friendly.  While searching "web20classroom" on Google Blogs, I found this great post about 100+ Google Tricks.  I actually added this particular blog (brentbenware's posterous) to my blog list because I think it is a great technology resource for multiple subject areas.  I thought Technorati was equally well organized.  In my search for a technology blog, I discovered How To Geek.  There are a lot of How-To's and other important geek information related to technology, such as "How to Plot the Batman Curve In Google Search."  Maybe not useful information, but at least it's interesting.  I also found a cool solution for creating a custom tablet cover using old books.  What a great way to recycle discards!

Thing 5 RSS Feed Reader

I already have a personalized RSS feed reader with Google. However, I haven't visited my reader in quite some time, so I was glad to use this exercise as a reminder of the wealth of information that I have subscribed to. I have added to my blog a list of the blogs that I follow and subscribe to so that maybe you can explore these sites too.

I think I like my Google Reader because I can consolidate all of the information I want news about into one place. It's also a great way for librarians to stay current in the profession as well as learning about new authors and new books.

Most of what I subscribe to has to do with YA literature and technology. However, I did add Confessions of a Pioneer Woman by Ree Drummond because she rocks!

Thing 4 Flickr

Look out, Origami Yoda! I found the ultimate origami project on Flickr. Why not create your own origami library, or have a contest for your students to see who can create a diorama of the best Origami Mini Library! There is also a You Tube video you can watch, but beware the narrator has an accent, which is difficult to listen to for the whole video.

Thing 3 Blogging

My is Laura Rahman, and I am the new librarian at Southmore Intermediate. I recently graduated from the University of Houston Clear Lake School of Library and Information Science, so the library world is very new to me. However, Web 2.0 isn't and neither is 23 Things. I actually have done this before in one of my graduate classes. It was a very rewarding experience, and I find I use a lot of those tools in the library. Although I have done this before, I did notice some new Web 2.0 tools on the list that I haven't done. I will be excited to see everyone's blog and the progress made as we work through 23 Things.
